Movie editing tips

In this article, we want to review 4 tips about video editing. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your video editing software, such as Premiere. These points are also expressed in Premiere training courses. However, students may not pay enough attention to it in Primere and other editing courses.

Remove extra parts of the movie

When editing a video, cut the beginning and end of the clips, and find the main and important part of each clip before adding them to the work. No viewer wants to see the extra, unimportant parts of the clips at length, so always keep the files short. In fact, focus on the important parts of the clip and shorten the unimportant parts.

Storytelling in film editing

Always tell a story when editing a film. A story should have a beginning, a middle part and an end.
At the professional level, editors are good storytellers. Without them, we would only have a collection of different scenes in the film that are difficult to relate to.
Conversely, some novice editors may lose sight of the original story of the film.

Create a directory of your project

When you want to create a large project for the first time, you do not have to save the project to the desktop. Each time you want to start a film editing project, you need to create something called a Project Directory.
Create a project folder and create several other folders inside it, such as the Sounds folder, the Music folder, the Image folder, the Vector folder, and so on. Then put all your files in the appropriate folder. You can also write a short description of what is happening in each file. The main project file can also be placed in this folder and there is no need to create a specific folder for it.
This will keep your project organized, fast and clean. And it has a good effect on your final work.

Use proxies

Using proxies is a great way to improve system performance when editing. Proxies in Premiere software are actually different sets of files for final editing and rendering.
If you have shot a movie in 4k or higher, but your computer is unable to edit 4k videos fluently and you have a system slowdown when editing, then you can use low quality proxies of that video, such as 720p or Lower quality, edit video. Finally, all changes will be applied by the Premiere program to the final 4k rendering. And the output video will be 4k quality.
